A life in the jewelry trade.
Dormont, Pittsburgh
Our first store opened in the Dormont neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Being in the trade taught us about sourcing materials, appraising precious metals and stones, craftsmanship, and every step of the jewelry-making process. We experienced the entire life cycle of jewelry — from drafting designs to melting down a finished piece.
We tested every piece that came through our doors, weighed every gram, and over the years, we learned a truth most big jewelry corporations would rather you didn’t know:

We saw beautiful work priced out of reach. We saw affordable jewelry that was dull, interchangeable, and forgettable. We believed there was room for something different: pieces worth wanting, at a price worth paying. From years of experience, curiosity, and a desire to do things differently, Zafrah was born.
